Illegal Immigration

Pick one of the "Pros & Cons Category" questions on the ProCon.org Illegal Immigration page (http://immigration.procon.org/).  Then pick a side, and in your Journal, write a thesis statement for your position, and write down three arguments from the website that support your side.  When finished - post to this blog.

  1. Question: "Should the US military patrol the borders?"
Thesis: The US military should not patrol the borders as they look for illegal immigrants because most of our soldiers are already deployed in other countries, there is already enough problems here in the USA that the military has to deal with and the US military budget has other things to pay for rather than policing the border for illegal aliens.

  2. "Is a fence along the US Mexico Border a good solution to illegal immigration?"
Thesis: There should not be a fence along the US Mexican Border to keep away illegal immigration because it can interfere with environmental situations, the government can spend money on other more important things, and illegal immigrants may be able to climb over the fences.

it depends if they have there passport or ID with them but if they don't then yes because what if they were a terrorist. a pro to this is we could be giving a person a chance a new life.

  5. Question: "Should the US military patrol the borders?"
Thesis: I do not think that the US military should patrol the borders because the US military already has a lot of stuff to deal with, like being prepared to get boomed at anytime or go into war. The US military's job is not to "patrol" the boarders, that could be another job that maybe the US government would want to look into getting a specific job where people hired would patrol the boarders. Right now the US military has so few soldiers right now in particularly Iraq that sending some to patrol the boarder is just insane, if we did that, that is just putting us in even more danger. These are a few reasons why I think that the US soldiers should not patrol the boarders.

  6. Question: "Should state or local governments enforce federal immigration laws?"
Thesis: The state or local government should enforce the federal immigration laws because

Supporting Fact 1: The country in overwhelmed with illegal aliens and the federal authorities do not have the manpower to apprehend them.

Supporting Fact 2: Also, the illegal aliens here are competing for the scarcely available jobs that some citizens would want.

Supporting Fact 3: The children of the illegal aliens are costing the state tax payers money by going to school and using the health care system without contributing to their payment.

  7. Question: Should the US military patrol the borders?
Thesis: The US military should patrol the borders.
Reason 1: Because ten millon illegal imigrents escape from there countries to the US.
Reason 2: Illegal immigration is a crime that people are getting really mad about and this could cause trouble.
Reason 3:When the illegal immigrants come to the US they can sneak drugs that are very harmful.

  8. Question: " Should the U.S. Military Patrol the Boarders?"
Thesis: The U.S. Military should patrol the borders of Canada and Mexico because over 10 million Illegal Immigrants have escaped from their home country to the United States. This is one of the major problems that the United States has which is illegal immigrants and illegal aliens. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has been doing a great job guarding all different types of public transportation such as airports, subway systems, and public buses. Many illegal immigrants bring illegal drugs to America as well as very deadly diseases. These are some of the reasons that I feel strongly about that the U.S. Military should patrol the Mexico and Canada borders.

  9. Question: Should overstaying a visa be considered a federal crime (vs. a civil offense)?
Thesis: Overstaying a visa should not be considered a federal crime because it turns someone who is most likely a harmless immigrant into a criminal. So many things could go wrong. If their flight home got cancelled the day before their visa expired and they could not get on a flight in time, they could suddenly become a federal criminal? If they wanted to extend their visa and they were not able to in time, they suddenly become a federal criminal? Leave that title to felons.

I think that it is important to for the US to patrol the borders because there are their will be more terrorist attacks. They quote "..[T] he need to enforce the border is urgent” proving that even presidents like George W. Bush think its important to patrol the borders.

  12. Question: Does illegal immigration pose a terrorist threat to the U.S.?
Thesis: Illegal immigration does pose a terrorist threat to the U.S. because these are people that we do not know and cannot identify them properly; therefore, they could be spies that were sent out to gather information about our military. Legal immigrants are employed here and pay their taxes and have mostly started new families. But others seeking to cross our borders illegally do present a threat including potential terrorists and criminals.

  13. Question: Does illegal immigration relate to higher crime incidence?
Thesis: Illegal immigration does relate to higher crime incidences. Adult illegal aliens represented 3.1 percent of the total adult population. By comparison, the illegal alien prison population represented more than 4.54 percent of the prison population. So this proves that illegal immigration does relate to higher crime incidences.
